LYON & HEALY HARPS ANNOUNCES
THE 2013 LYON & HEALY AWARDS CARDIFF WINNERS
CHICAGO – February 25, 2013 – Lyon & Healy Harps is pleased to have presented the Lyon & Healy Awards at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, Wales on February 15-17, in conjunction with the Ingenious Royal Welsh College International Harp Festival. Elizabeth Bass (United Kingdom), Llywelyn Jones (United Kingdom), Jasmin-Isabel Kühne (Germany) and Markus Thalheimer (Germany) were chosen as the four Award Winners out of 36 participants. Each received a cheque from Lyon & Healy Harps for £2,000 and a Winners’ plaque to commemorate their Award.
The jury consisted of Ms. Jana Bouskova, Principal Harpist of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra; Ms. Maria Luisa Rayan-Forero, internationally renowned soloist, teacher and arranger of music for harp; and Ms. Karen Vaughan, Head of Harp at the Royal Academy of Music. After long debate, the jury decided to award a fourth prize (originally three) as there was such a large number of contestants. “We are delighted to have received such a huge response from the contestants in our first presentation in Europe, as we received more applications than ever before for an Awards,” states Heather Azem, Lyon & Healy Awards Manager. “The level of musicianship reached new heights as each contestant played the repertoire beautifully. It is always wonderful to work with the contestants and hear emerging talent.”
